Mohamad Safa claims death threats, censorship, and a ‘powerful lobby’ driving misinformation campaign
A United Nations diplomat has resigned from his position in dramatic fashion, warning that the international body is preparing for the “possible use of nuclear weapons” against Iran and urging global citizens to take to the streets in protest.
Mohamad Safa, who served as the Main Representative of Patriotic Vision Organization (PVA) at the United Nations for nearly 12 years, announced his resignation on March 27, 2026, through a public letter addressed to member state representatives. His departure marks one of the most explosive whistleblower moments in recent UN history.
‘I Gave Up My Diplomatic Career to Leak This Information’
In a series of posts on X, Safa painted a dire picture of what he claims is happening behind closed doors at the United Nations.
“I don’t think people understand the gravity of the situation as the UN is preparing for possible nuclear weapon use in Iran,” Safa wrote, sharing a photograph of Tehran. “This is a picture of Tehran. For you uneducated, untraveled, never-served, warhawks licking your chops at the thought of bombing it.”
The Lebanese-born diplomat, who holds a master’s degree in space diplomacy and international relations, compared Tehran’s population of nearly 10 million people to major Western capitals, asking what the world would think if someone proposed nuking Washington, Berlin, Paris, or London.
Allegations of a ‘Powerful Lobby’ and Misinformation Campaign
Safa’s resignation letter levels serious accusations against senior UN officials, claiming they serve a “powerful lobby” rather than the organization’s founding principles of peace and international cooperation.
“Senior officials and influential diplomats, supported by global media and social media algorithms, deployed a misinformation campaign claiming an Iran nuclear threat and sowed pro-war sentiments to encourage a war with Iran and throughout the region,” Safa alleged.
He drew direct parallels to justifications used for military actions in Gaza and Lebanon, writing: “This lobby was used to deceive you into believing that Iran posed an imminent threat to world peace. This was a lie and is the same tactic used to commit genocide in Gaza and the same tactic is being used now to ethnic cleansing and the occupation of Lebanon.”
Death Threats and Personal Persecution
The diplomat claims his outspoken views came at a significant personal cost. In his resignation letter, Safa alleged that he and his family received death threats, and that the UN “abandoned” him in response.
He further accused senior officials of financially penalizing him and denying his freedom of expression, though he was careful to note that the censorship came from individual officials “who abuse their power to serve that lobby” rather than the UN system as an institution.
Safa indicated he had considered resigning as early as 2023 but waited three more years before making his final decision public.
A Call to Global Action
Tying his resignation to the massive “No Kings” protests that swept across the United States over the weekend, Safa issued an urgent plea for worldwide mobilization.
“Yesterday, nearly ten million people protested ‘No Kings’ in the United States,” he wrote. “The possibility of the use of nuclear weapons must be taken very seriously. It’s dangerous. Act now. Spread this message worldwide. Take the streets. Protest for our humanity and future. Only the people can stop it. History will remember us.”
What We Know — And What We Don’t
It’s important to note that Safa’s allegations remain unverified. The United Nations has not issued any official response to his claims of nuclear preparations, censorship, or lobbying pressure.
As a diplomat with consultative status through an NGO rather than a member state, Safa’s claims represent his interpretation of internal discussions and institutional climate rather than direct access to classified military planning documents.
However, his resignation comes amid genuine escalation in the Middle East. Reports indicate the United States and Israel have engaged in military operations against Iran, and President Donald Trump has issued ultimatums regarding the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has rejected a 15-point U.S. proposal and warned that American soldiers “would become food for sharks in the Persian Gulf.”
Whether Safa is a courageous whistleblower sounding the alarm on humanity’s darkest hour or a disgruntled official making unsubstantiated claims, his dramatic exit has forced the world to confront uncomfortable questions about what happens next in an already volatile region.
