BOWLING GREEN, KY — What started as a single shooting near Western Kentucky University’s campus last month has turned into a full-scale murder investigation — and Bowling Green isn’t done making arrests.
On February 15, officers responded to the 300 block of University Boulevard after Diego Andres Lopez-Urdaneta was found shot in his vehicle. He was rushed to the hospital but did not survive. Within days, police had their first arrests. But the case kept growing.
As of March 4, six people are now facing charges connected to the killing. Bryan Lopez has been charged with murder and is currently jailed on a $1 million bond. Christopher Ramirez faces a complicity to murder charge. Three additional arrests confirmed this week: Jose Hernandez, 36, Luis Lira-Duron, 23, and Jason Lopez-Aguero, 20 — all charged with complicity to murder. Multiple agencies worked the scene that night including WKU Police, Warren County Sheriff’s Office, and Bowling Green Police Department.
The University Boulevard corridor sits adjacent to WKU’s campus — a zone that students, families, and residents expect to be safe. Six arrests later, this community is still processing what happened and watching to see if more charges follow.
